Excellent web-comic, guys. I just found it today and it’s shaping up to be really awesome.
I do have one tiny little nitpick, though:
Way back on page 19, Clarence says he weighs 300 pounds. That’s way, way, -WAY- too low for a mature brown/grizzly bear like him. 300 pounds on a bear is a half-starved runt, not normal, well-fed specimen like we see drawn in the comic.
That weight IS well within the typical weight range for a black bear, but a brown’s average weight is around 740 pounds, with a big “Kodiak” brown from Alaska potentially more than doubling that.
Sorry for the sudden biology attack, but I’m doing a speech on bears for class and had the info fresh in my head. Again, I love the comic and can’t wait for the next update, I just felt compelled to offer up some numbers, in case they might come into play later.
You’re absolutely right about bear, specifically how much he and his species would weigh. Writing the character of Clarence, I came from a perspective of the small, mousey accountant; the human. So if a human were to use hyperbole, they’d say they weigh “300lbs” after a thanksgiving meal, if that makes sense.
So that gross under-weight was intentional, as Bear is, for all intents and purposes, a human who knows nothing about Bears, and thinks, and talks like a human would. It was strictly for turn of phrase.
That being said you’ve got a keen eye, and I love that you looked into that. Thanks a lot for reading!
I’d wait on making fun of the guy in a bear body till you find out what your power is, just in case it’s the power to turn into honey.
Gallifray makes a good point.
Shape of, jar of honey!
Good thing the big guy seems to be a likeable person, I just hope he has a sense of humor as well.
